It made me click a frowny face and tried to make feel like a dick because I choose to block ads.

Hosting costs money. They built a nice tool, but don't happen to be rich enough to pay all of the costs, and know that if they made their tool subscription-based, they'd get 0 visitors. So they opted for ads.

I bet if you sent them $20 via paypal they'd find a way to remove that notification for you.

Or you could just bitch that they made you acknowledge that you want something for free without any inconvenience at all.
