Death Stranding 2 is weird.

I don’t mean bad weird; largely, it is a very very similar game to its predecessor, with only some minor tweaks and additions to help it feel like you’re not doing the exact same gameplay progression on a different (and still very pretty) landmass.

Therefore, I have to imagine a huge chunk of the game’s budget went into the cinematic aspects. The game’s story feels overall more coherent than Death Stranding, with slightly more levity thanks to some new characters.

But it is also very silly. I can’t say exactly what makes me say that without spoiling, but I think anyone who sees the game through will understand what I mean. In my experience, tonal whiplash is something of a staple in Kojima’s works, and this might be the most direct it’s ever been.

I will be there on day one if he ever makes Death Stranding 3.
