So what? They're setting expectations based on what is in the pipeline. But also they're looking at Baldur's Gate and figuring how it was done so they can do it. The bar is raised. That's the effect of competition, and it's a good thing.

Cody, again, you're posting on a website for a game that is about to be mothballed. I don't know how you can make globalizing statements like "everything is the same." The developers who make a product that provides the least amount of friction to get to the fun are going have an audience, and if they can figure out how to do that and make a profit, they'll be able to keep doing it. That's the basic equation, and there are always going to be people trying to make the math work.

I don't begrudge you having your very exact standards for what is acceptable. I might find it ridiculous the extent to which you're willing to return the meal and leave the restaurant because there is a drop of pickle juice on your plate and you said no pickle, but you do you. I do begrudge how you tend to a interpret it as a character issue if someone else decides the meal isn't exactly what they'd like in every particular, but the good parts outweigh the bad parts.

I totally agree that there should be a guest option in the new Halo, BTW. The enjoyment I'm anticipating having with the game outweighs that inconvenience.
