What if I've already completed that mission? (Destiny)

I'm halfway through the story with my Hunter.

I assume I cannot simply play through the first mission again to get the weathered ship skin you mention?

Make a new character. Complete the first mission. Go to the tower, and instead of going to the shipwright, dump the ship in storage.

Then go back to your primary and pull the ship out of storage.
