I don't know all the in's and out's of running a forum, but I'm assuming they use up valuable storage space.

Nope! Using the [img] [youtube] and [gifv] tags just makes a reference to wherever the resource is hosted. No extra storage or anything here!

Plus, I don't have to worry about causing loading issues and remember to put the #vid in my subject.

That, however, is always good to keep in mind. :) YouTube is at least helpful enough to not load any video until *after* you click the "play" button, so those embeds are lightweight. Imgur, on the other hand, just loads the video no matter what, which is just lame on their part.
