What do you guys think Bungie's etheric light idea was? (Destiny)

I've earned 15 etheric light this week so far. This is a lot of etheric light. At this point, I'm just leveling up guns and armor because "Well, I don't have a solar fusion rifle leveled, I guess, and MAYBE scout rifle reload speed will help."

I don't need any of this etheric light. However, most of the people on this forum are having a rough time even getting to 34. You need to be 32, and beat the PoE every week to get the level 34 armor. It would be nice if you could get some etheric light to get to 34 and then beat the level 34 raid, but you don't have much of an option. The other way to get it is Trials of Osiris, which, even for the best of us, is very very difficult.

Basically, for the ones who lucked out and hit 34 early, we just stacked up etheric light. Then we were able to do more level 34 stuff. Then we were able to do more and more and more to the point where we are swimming in it, and its usefulness is waning. For the ones who did not, the whole game's still a struggle to complete; and it's by no means their fault. I remember Vault of Glass was kind of like this, where you needed a boatload of shards to even hit the level where you would be useful, but the best way to get shards was the Vault. So this is a consistent philosophy for Bungie.

Do you think this is a kind of gating to keep us working a little bit longer at the beginning of the expansion, so we don't feel like we've done it all by the first week?

Maybe, because so many of the community's wishes were granted, like guaranteed loot, less random stuff, Bungie built in the level gated etheric light, so it still feels like we're aiming for something.

Or maybe the prize is there for people to do Iron Banner or Trials even if they don't want to just at the promise of the rare loot.

Anyway, what do you think the goal is of this? I'm not sure! It's probably a good choice, though, whatever the reason.
