Sunsinger Slapshots me in ToS? [Beorn and Wes present] (Destiny)

I had a Sunsinger slapshot me in Trials last night. If you watch the map, you'll notice that DreadPirateWes was straight up punted. Now, I ended up dying from the burn, but at the rate I was traveling I'm pretty sure it would have been an architect kill if my death hadn't halted my sand glissade.

Anyone know how this works? I'm pretty sure it's a defect, but I'd like to understand it to give myself the best chance of avoiding it.

Yeah, I got shot about 100 yards more towards A and a bit deeper off the map. I did not immediately die from the architects, but had 5 seconds to make it back to the map. Barely made it and then died to a sunsinger grenade almost immediately.
