Tales from the Lighthouse - Part 3 (Videos) (Destiny)
(If you're interested, here's Tails from the Lighthouse Part 1 and Part 2)
Had another great night in the Trials of Osiris last night. Went in with TheeChaos and Ottermack. We had all played with each other before, but never all together on the same team. Turns out we're a pretty good match together. After 4 or 5 warm up games, we started new cards and went to the lighthouse twice, back-to-back. All 3 of us tend to be naturally aggressive players, which lead to some fun moments. Also worth mentioning: none of us used a single Hand Cannon all night. Game after game, enemy Thorns and Last Words fell to our trio of Pulse Rifles. Ottermack is a machine with his Praedyth's Timepiece, TheeChaos was going great with his Messenger, and I switched back and forth between my Messenger and a SpareChange.25 with Rodeo, Smallbore, and Headseaker (It will 2-shot kill just as easily as the Messenger, and has more range). The exotic hand cannons are as deadly as ever, but I can safely say they have met their match!
A few highlights:
Unstoppable Chaos
During one of our first games, TheeChaos went on a tear right out of the gate and never slowed down. I'm convinced Ottermack and I were doing almost as much total damage, but Chaos managed to score the kill almost every. single. time. It was a thing of beauty :)
Same Team?
In this clip, Ottermack and I both prove that when we're on a roll, we'll gun down anything in our path... even each other ;p
When to Push
Like me, Ottermack and TheeChaos are naturally aggressive players. Unlike me, they both have great instincts when it comes to knowing when to act aggressively, and when to use restraint. One moment (which you can see in the Waiting Game clip below) would become known as Chaos' "pee into the wind" maneuver. With Ottermack and I both down next to each other, and the entire enemy team camping our Orbs, Chaos just walks into the room, pops his super, and bladedances all 3 of them into oblivion. I though it was the worst idea possible, and it worked beautifully :)
This clip below is a continuation of the Same Team? clip above. It is a great example of moving as a team to pressure the enemy and keep them off balance. At the end, you'll see a fantastic example of when not to push, as I manage to trick the entire enemy team into chasing me so that I can loop around and revive both of my fallen teammates.
The Waiting Game
This final clip is a long one, but it was my favorite win of the night. Playing on Burning Shrine, we squared off against a team who had a rock-solid game plan, and they executed it beautifully. They were spawning on the outside, so they had 1 sniper stay far back while the other 2 watched the exits from the building. Any time we made a push for one of the exits, the sniper would rotate over and work with his teammates to pick us off as we struggled to find them while shooting into the sunlight.
We quickly lost 2 rounds before we switched up our approach. We all agreed that this was not a time for aggression, so we hung back inside and waited. By staying back inside the building, we took their sniper largely out of the equation. We clawed our way back to a 4-3 lead.
Then, during the final round, I saw an opportunity to push and we jumped on it. Chaos had an enemy pinned on top of the central outdoor structure (above the outside heavy ammo spawn). I got a sniff of blood in the water and rushed outside through the middle doorway, around the side of the structure, and Nova Bombed the guy camping on top. Off balance, down a man, and 1 round away from defeat, the enemy team panicked and got sloppy. We found the last guy hiding in the corner, too scared to move :)
Anyone else have any highlights from Trials of Osiris this weekend? What do you all think about the rotating maps? How did it change ToO for you?
