Doing it will give you drops of coins. usually 2. so 2x3= around 6 a day. Its how I used to get coins.

EDIT: this is based on the assumption you play 3 characters.

I'm pretty sure the daily crucible only guarantees a single coin. Of course, it's not uncommon to get a couple coins as a post-game reward, but most of the time I go in there for a coin I only leave with one coin per character.
