Support vs Sequel (Destiny)
Destiny now includes 18 PvP maps after one year on the market. 7 came as part of expansions and were/are going to be free on the 15th.
On the 15th, it will have 7 paid PvP maps, 8 on Playstation.
Or to put it this way:
Destiny, after 1 year:8 paid PvP DLC maps, 7 free post-release
Halo 3, after 8 years:9 paid PvP DLC maps, 3 free post release, 1 released free
Reach, after 5 years:12 paid PvP DLC maps, 0 free post release
This is absolutely important stuff to keep into perspective, but I wonder if the Activision vs Microsoft comparison is really what's going on here.
I think the difference here is that what Bungie is primarily engaged in, right now, is supporting and expanding Destiny-- and not working on a separate sequel to be released in 3-4 years. For Microsoft, working on DLC was probably viewed as a distraction from getting the next game out, whereas here, the DLC literally IS the next game.

- It's good to see the maps run free.
