I picked some up, but didn't have time to try them out. When I use one, is it just a buff that stays active until I kill a boss? Rather than farming, can I just activate them while I'm running quests and missions? Does it have a time limit?

stays active until you kill a boss. if the boss doesn't drop an engram, then you get a +1 buff that is applied when you activate another 3 of coins, and so on. Not sure if there is a max buff or not.
