This is true. But that's also true for Sunbreakers (if I remember correctly). The thing that differs is that it much more forgiving to miss with hammers because of splash. On the other hand it's much easier to hit a golden gun shot than a hammer and also it has much longer range.

Of course this is all from experience of fighting Golden Gunners, not using it :-)

The other HUGE difference is that Sunbreakers can take a LOT more punishment. One good sniper or shotgunner and you're dead before you even get a shot off. Meanwhile I've double Chaperoned a Sunbreaker in the head, they had a tiny sliver left, killed me, and got all their health back.
