The Hunter jump does make it difficult, but one in our party (SteelGaribaldi or Red Robber, can't recall which) realized that the entire puzzle is possible with no double jumps, except the one towards the end where you have to jump up onto another ship.

I know I've said that, not sure if Red did as well.

I've fallen A LOT at the Ships, so I have carefully watched everyone else (often from death cam), and realized that most of the jumps down were easier than we were making them. Usually it's a running jump, timed just right.
