They do have writers who care about the subject and who want to get their opinion out there. Many I think are free thinkers. But, Kotaku writes extremely biased articles with no due diligence very often, and they also blow everything out of proportion. Most gawker sites do this now.

They can be looked to for well written blog type articles, but not necessarily for editorial page of the newspaper type articles, or any investigative journalism (not particularly trustworthy). Kotaku is perfectly fine if you keep it in mind, and it looks like you do. So more power to you. Keep reading the sites you enjoy.

In general, the disgust for Kotaku is not usually their content, but how they conduct themselves.
