Bungie Weekly Update - Feb 12 at 6:45:23 PM

by DeeJ

This week at Bungie, we're prepping some features you'll find in the next Destiny Update.

We've been talking about 1.1.1 for a few weeks now. We promised a Heavy Ammo bug fix. We promised some weapon tuning. The promise of "before the end of February" is still one we're aiming to keep. Word on the street is that things are looking good.

We'll keep you up to speed as we hone in on the exact date.

Reputation Gains

"Dude, when I score a few more points with New Monarchy, I'm gonna score that badass Vanquisher I've had my eye on." -Abraham Lincoln, 1862

Okay, we all know Lincoln never said that. With all that black gear, he was obviously a Dead Orbit man. What we do know to be true is that plenty of you have asked for an easier way to check your reputation standing with your friendly neighborhood Tower vendors.

I had a chance to catch up with David Candland about that this week. If you're unaware of his reputation, Candland, otherwise known as "Evil Otto," is the Design Lead for the User Interface Team at Bungie. Here's what he had to say about the shiny new stuff they've been working on:

Tell us about this new Reputation Panel. Looks like you all saved us a few steps.

DC: We've created a way for you to see your faction reputations and weekly marks without having to run from vendor to vendor in the Tower. Now this information is never more than two clicks away!

When did you make the call to drop this into our inventory screens?

DC: We're working on a lot of new features. This one is being included in 1.1.1 because it had a very low impact on our Test team. We've known we've wanted this feature since we donned our first piece of faction class gear, and the community has too. It was a no-brainer.

We've seen the community come up with their own ideas for how this might have worked. What did you wrestle with in making it a reality in an existing game?

DC: Where do you put it, and how much information do you include? Since reputation really affects your buying power, it made sense to put it in close proximity to your currencies. The inventory screen real estate is pretty full, so using the fly-out convention we established in the settings screen was a way to recoup some space, yet still allow tooltips for another layer of detail.

Reputation is power! You haven't heard the last from Evil Otto. Like he said, they're working on some other ways to change the way you visualize your world in Destiny. Stay tuned.

Love In The Air

Reminder: Valentine's Day is this Saturday. If you're still at a loss for what you'll do to let the love of your life know that you care, we suggest a fun-filled evening in Doubles Skirmish. It's live in the Crucible right now.

Just picture you and that special someone skipping through a live firefight together, laying all challengers to waste. Nothing says "I'll love you forever," more than bringing them back to life when they fall to enemy gunfire. You might even spend some quality time together sharing a freshly-popped crate of ammunition.

The couple that slays together stays together.

And, if you're single, why not let Lord Shaxx be your matchmaker? Meet other singles in your area. Show them the true meaning of love.

The Early Hawk Catches the Caterpillar?

This community shares common ground in the Tower and on our forum. Ever watchful, the Destiny Operations Center is doing what they can to make sure that you can access both environments with success. Weekly Updates would be incomplete without an assurance from them that they're hard at work to keep you connected.

Bungie.net has undergone changes that will soon impact how you'll log into your profile. This update means that linking your account should be easier. If you are experiencing any issues in linking your Bungie profile account, please let us know in the #BnetIssues forum.

In the game, we have noticed an increase in CATERPILLAR and HAWK error codes. This pairing of errors is usually due to firewall settings on a router, which can block connectivity. You may need to contact your internet service provider to help you determine if this is the case. We have updated both error pages to reflect this information.

Thank you for sounding off on the forum about how Destiny can work better for you. We're listening and reacting to your reports, so keep them coming.

Sit Back. Relax. Enjoy the Show.

The time has come to dim the lights and nuke some popcorn. Some industry types have taken to calling this sort of stuff UGC, or "User-Generated Content." We call it an unending source of community-created multimedia inspiration. AUSOCCMI.

Okay, UGC works, too.

Winner: For laser-focused attention to lore, editing, narration, and outstanding accomplishments in capturing the mood.

Honorable Mention: Robotic flash mob dance party! Ever seen this many Exos in the tower?

Want to see your work featured in our weekly film festival? Smash it into our eyeballs by sending us a link on Twitter: @Bungie. Tag it with #DestinyMOTW. If you're on a PlayStation 4 and you need some help with creating your masterpiece, you can download this new SHAREfactory theme and put some Destiny stank on it.

Thanks for playing. Thanks for sharing. And thanks for waiting patiently for the next game update. We're excited to tell you about what it holds in store for Strikes next week.

Until then, stay close to your teammates this week. Don't forget to pick up something nice for your SO. Tell 'em Bungie says what's up.
