Bungie Weekly Update - Aug 6 at 10:48:00 PM

by Cozmo

This week at Bungie I'm monitoring the progress of our away team.

It's been another busy week here as we fortify our positions in preparation for the arrival of Oryx. DeeJ and Urk have journeyed overseas to gamescom with a full team of Bungie developers and tech ninjas. Their mission: Sound a warning about The Taken King. Meanwhile, the Destiny community desk is in the hands of the New Guy. That's me.

It's not been a slow news week. In case you haven't heard, Game Informer broke more than a little bit of their own news. If you have yet to dive into their thoughts, check out their hub of information from which new information will spring like a loot cave all month long.

We know you have questions, and we have big plans to answer them. Similar to how we introduced you to the House of Wolves, we're preparing a series of live broadcasts on Twitch to give you an in-depth look into all of the ways that The Taken King will change the way you play Destiny.

Until then, you have plenty of new details to plunder from the new trailer that we released as part of our showing at gamescom.

If you have an appetite for more, here's another view of the next story we're telling in the Destiny universe.

Let the speculation ride for now. We'll talk more after everyone has made a safe trip home.

Slideshow

As evidence that our people are still alive and well, I've been receiving some snapshots from the field. Here's a slideshow of digital souvenirs transmitted from DeeJ's mobile communications platform - something you would call a smart phone...

Rainy skies have served up some comforts of home.

In Cologne, some items stay locked forever.

Every morning starts with a walk to the Public Event.

Or, in our case, celebrate the player.

Local quartermasters welcome all challengers in our gamescom crucible.

This Crucible is also no place for mercy.

Sweet, sweet loot for all willing combatants.

Behind-closed-doors is home to a different kind of shooting (destinyblog.de pictured).

A wild, beautiful bastard appears at a capture event. Heavy video inbound.

Slow-walking the Koelnmesse after the crowds have dispersed.

Destiny Community social headquarters at gamescom, three years running.

Mass selfie with the Euro Guardians.

To new adventures and new friends in Destiny Year Two.

Drinks over the Rhine.

Speaking of DeeJ, today is his birthday. I am not sure how old he is, but my guess is somewhere between 25 and 53. Please join me in wishing him a happy birthday on Twitter.

Support Class

Destiny Player Support is on the front lines of the #Help forum on mission to serve. They have a particular set of skills.

DPS: In preparation for the 1.2.0.5 update, Destiny and Bungie.net were taken offline for maintenance today (8/6/2015). Both Destiny and Bungie.net were unavailable during this time, and if you were in in-game when this occurred, you may have seen Error Code: LOGANBERRY. As of now, all services have been restored. In the future, stay tuned to the @BungieHelp Twitter and this Help article for news on any upcoming maintenance and updates on when the spice will flow again.
As a reminder, Strange Coins are still being delivered for verifying your Bungie.net account email. If you have yet to do so, this Help article outlines the qualifications and process.

They will find you, and they will help you.

Top Flicks

For the last few weeks there has been a waterfall of art and videos created by the community. You may have noticed that we have started sharing out submissions on our full suite of social media channels. If you want your stuff seen by millions of other Guardians, as well as the added chance of being the next Movie of the Week, submit it to the Community Creations page. All winners and honorable mentions will receive an emblem.

WINNER: For creation of the "Bullets to Murder Sparrow" metric.

Honorable Mention: For In honor of a heroic sacrifice.

Honorable Mention: For having the patience and taking the time.

Depending on how much you've been following current events, this Weekly Update was either light on new details or a virtual treasure trove of new information. This was my first solo mission so I hope you enjoyed the ride. Our team will be reunited next week, with more information on the reveal schedule for The Taken King.

In the meantime, everything you're learning about what Destiny is about to become is up for discussion on the #Feedback forum. We're listening, and looking forward to our chance to respond.
