Never liked trading cards, I'm guessing? (Destiny)

Maybe not the greatest example. I mean, the answer is yes, but I was a kid back then, with no sense of value and using someone else's money.

Heh, can't say the same. I was using (or eventually used) my own money on 'em. :)

Trading cards of all my favorite movies, shows, games, and comics were the main things that I bought like that, but there were some card games and HeroClix bought back in the day too. I also remember buying a box of Star Wars toys once in the format stores buy them (didn't know exactly which ones I'd get inside, just the wave; sold the rare or duplicates online).

I'm not saying it's my favorite way to spend money, especially anymore, but there was an innocent excitement in not knowing what you were getting exactly (and since there was usually a wide enough pool of things to get, duplicates weren't a big deal). For me, it never led to some addiction or something. I wasn't selling my TV for Pokemon cards. And now I still have my binder full of cards, and I've found they're a great and easily-managed reference for art. I can grab a Wolverine card for example, throw it in my sketchbook as a bookmark and have a ref. for his costume wherever I go.

If I HAD the spare change, I'd probably still buy some card packs for various things from time to time. There's a guy who sells artist trading cards at some conventions - you get a little box of a bunch covers and paintings the artist of your choice made. It's super motivating to flip through and it's given me lots of ideas for compositions without having to buy (or store) a library of art.

I wouldn't spend money in Destiny like this, mostly because emotes, etc. don't interest me, but I don't see the option as demonic or whatever, especially since it's still just cosmetics. I WOULD buy physical Destiny or classic Halo trading cards in a heartbeat (and a paycheck) though.
