Tips for a kid Destiny player (Destiny)
My boy just turned 7. It's a little much for him, but he's willing to do strikes and patrol missions, and pvp here and there. He randomly invited himself to a bunch of people's fireteams (while in the tower he mentioned "look at all my friends that are online!") and has actually got 2 legit friends that way. One a late teen early twenties guy that is pretty cool to him. The other is another 8ish yo kid. I feel thankful he hasn't received hate mail here and there. Heh. We've got a pretty cool community.
He wants to raid pretty bad, but isn't there in terms of ability. he also doesn't fully understand cause and effect in the game. Since he can stand next to people and complete bounties, quests and have things move forward, he isn't as diligent as he ought to be about actually working towards the objective. He only occasionally stares at the ground shooting corpses for fun while in the strike playlist. ;)
Overall think of it as a casual experience and let them set the terms of what they enjoy and what they want to do. It probably won't all overlap with how you see the game. Like playing hide and seek in the tower or jumping off the tower to their deaths and laughing hysterically. Or climbing the tree. You know, kid stuff. =)
I think it's good idea to brainstorm and steer them towards a decent gamertag, but let them ultimately choose. That's worked well for my kids in general over the past couple of years.
