Am I totally crazy, or does this bug you too? (Destiny)

Yeah, it's an immersion breaker. Why isn't this started by Saladin handing you the book, rather than the book being an extra "tracker" that you get along the way? Why is the book sealed? That's pretty specific terminology.

I think I understand how it got that way though. The devs that are making the book have had that delegated to them and aren't part of the full team doing the expansion. So there's little communication and such. It's a "Hey, that was really cool for SRL, can we do that for Rise of Iron too? Can you guys do that for us?" kind of thing.

And the devs aren't going to say "Yeah, I can totally do that, but doesn't it break the player immersion?" They are only going to think if it's possible to do, because frankly they have to assume that the reason they were given it is because it passed all the checks to fit in with story/game play
