Is the VR bleeding edge tech rendering at 120fps each eye or is that marketing twist for 60fps each?

The accepted minimum seems to be 90fps. Both eyes updated at 90hz. From my own experience, the current 1080 x 1200 per eye is pretty horrendous. Carmack has said minimum 8k per eye to eliminate seeing pixels.
