I just don’t buy it. Halo 5 runs 4K 60 on the One X and looks much better than this demo, technically.

That's because Halo 5 had baked in lighting, and not real time lighting like Halo Infinite. If you watch the video, they look at Last of Us 2 to show how baked in lighting eliminates the 'looks flat in shadows' problem (but creates other issues). Real time lighting is much more expensive, and shortcuts to get it to run well at 4K60 result in the look you see in the demo. Had they done ray tracing at 1080p60 the visuals could have been improved a lot.

Part of it could have to do with the cross gen nature of the game: there's no hardware ray trace on the Xbox One.
