No offense to marmot (love ya, bud), but I'd listen to someone who has played both to completion regarding playing the first RDR first. Knowing that John Marston has a role in RDR2 makes it more compelling to me, and there are probably many callbacks. By my own definition, I'm not someone you should listen to, but I can verify that RDR1 is well worth your time.
