Thanks, everyone, for enlightening me on this. This seems excessively complicated (and buggy) for something as common as buying used consoles.

It's not really, it's just how DRM in this era works, is all.

It will take time for the average person to get their minds around how their digital foot print works, but we've been on the path to this kind of stuff for years.
