Question: Do i get more shards if i breakdown a maxed exotic (Destiny)

legendaries give you more energy when they are leveled up. will i get more for leveling up an exotic?

I have 2 ice breakers. I would like to buy the upgrade for my unleveled versions, then dismantle the fully leveled ones to offset the amount of strange coins i would need.
