The odd thing about my situation was that when I accepted the invite, it pulled them into my game (in orbit)

This happened to me with 2 randoms when I was trying to join a nightfall once. They sent an invite, which I accepted, and it pulled them out of the nightfall and into orbit with me. They got really upset (understandably).
