Destiny companion app (Destiny)

So... I'd kinda like to use one of these 3rd party apps but... I don't trust them. How do they safely interface with my Xbox Live and Bungie accounts? If something goes wrong and I lose items who would I be able to complain to? Maybe I'm just a bit paranoid but I'd rather be safe and know who to yell at than be able to move a few guns around a tiny bit quicker...

I found out about Tower Ghost through a Bungie employee. They haven't had any documented case of anyone losing anything yet.
