Hmm.

So it appears that if you put on better armor, you will do more damage because your light average is higher. That's pretty stupid.

Technically it has always been this way. Better armor/more light = higher level = more damage output.

No it hasn't. Go into the vault of glass normal as a level 26. Note how much damage you do. Now put on armor to get to level 34. How much damage do you do? The exact same amount. A higher level does not increase your damage done. It only make a difference between 4 and 1 levels below the enemy.
