No Time To Explain First Thoughts (Destiny)
Actually managed to find a group on short notice. Fun trip down memory lane. Sleeper Stim does terrifying things to normal mode Atheon. Managed to get him on the first Times Vengeance.
Anyways, the gun.
Functions pretty much as well as the Strangers Rifle. Just updated for a new time. Burst recoil is nice and predictable. Muzzle perks are okay, only really viable ones are the first for overall and the bonus stability at the bottom. Full auto for blasting. Middle perks give slight boosts, at no penalty, to core stats.
Last perk, Rewind, is the selling point: Every bullet that makes a precision shot is refunded to the magazine. These do not need to be killing shots. Enemies with active shields, no precision points or otherwise will not trigger the perk. If you can keep a steady bead, you can keep pounding a boss in the head without reloading.
The Good?
Its a solid primary weapon. Stability isn't a huge deal, so you can pound someone in the dome continually and reliably, at fairly good ranges for a pulse rifle. If you got good aim, this thing may have the most ammunition longevity of any single weapon in the game. Its solid stats mean it'll work in both PVP or PVE gametypes, with a good practicality factor.
The Bad?
Not sold on the sights. Might just be me being tired and test firing when I should be sleeping. Something so far about them seems to throw me on fine shooting. Which is funny, because I remember the original Strangers Rifle to have some of the best sights I'd seen for some time.
While it boasts solid all around performance, its weaknesses are still that of the weapon archetype. It doesn't have the full punch of a handcannon, none of the weight behind an auto rifle and shorter range than a scout rifle. Simply put, its not a POWER weapon like a Mythoclast, a Regime or a Hawkmoon is or was.
In Summary?
This is probably going to be a conditionally used Exotic. Like Bad Juju, or Mida Multitool, it fulfills a good utility role. But if you have an exotic sword or Sleeper, and you have a solid legendary I'd suggest using those instead.
Its an exceptionally useful weapon, don't get me wrong.
Part of my negativity stems from recently completing Iron Banner. Its stat line on my current build is basically Nirwens Mercy, only without a huge chunk of stability and a much smaller magazine. Though with the perk, I'd say the mag is functionally much larger. With Outlaw and the Radar, its kind of a toss up. Plus, you don't always run into situations calling for infinite ammo on a regular basis.
Bottom Line?
Great pulse rifle. Just a bit over shadowed in some aspects by the show-stoppers in your arsenal. If you like the idea of shooting someone in the head without reloading a lot, go for it.
