i read a post on reddit that said they used it on the war priest and never reloaded. but that could have been all headshots, since he doesn't move.

I would guess that he was still landing headshots. Because body shots on a tethered Warpriest definitely does not activate the Black Spindle White Nail perk.

I think the yellow numbers on a tethered opponents cause a lot of confusion. It makes it seem like all damage becomes precision damage, but that's not the case.

Yeah, but only because people considered yellow to mean precision shots but really it just means bonus damage.
