I don't think they do. When you die during a public event you usually respawn a good ways away. I think that would be enough of a penalty for this event as well. The waves have to be cleared before the timer runs out, so getting back to the fight after dying will make it harder to complete. Plus I want these events to last longer than a typical 2 minute public event.
