I suspect that many of the changes we're talking about here are not specifically part of The Taken King. When House of Wolves launched, it came along side a rather substantial Title Update that changed the way gear is upgraded, materials are traded, and a bunch of other "quality of life" stuff. All Destiny players benefit from these changes, not just those who purchased House of Wolves.

I suspect we will see a similar rollout when TKK ships.
