Polygon has an in-depth article from E3 covering Destiny and what its success means to Bungie. It's a well-written article that covers a lot of content and takes a slightly different tack than most of the E3 coverage we've seen. It even sounds like they may have had some hands-on time with the demo! If you only read one article about Destiny from E3 this week, this article should be on the short list. (Thanks, Xenos).
Xenos let us know that Destiny preorders are now available for the upcoming Xbox One at Amazon. If that's your platform of fancy, go and plop down some spacebucks!
The Bungie Away Team is busy this week; the latest interview to hit our screens is GameInformer talking to Harold Ryan. Note that they've edited-out the questions, so it's just Harold giving answers back-to-back. The editing sort of breaks the continuity of the demo, but the piece still offers some fresh perspective on the news that we've been hearing out of E3.
The E3 Destiny interviews are rolling in! Bruce Green from Machinima talked to Pete Parsons yesterday for about 15 minutes, covering an array of topics including the campaign/multiplayer dynamic and the scale of playable space in Destiny (among others). Thanks, electricpirate.
When Hedge is excited, the birds fly lighter, the tides rise higher, the chocolate tastes sweeter, the kiss lasts longer, the love grows stronger. When Hedge is excited, we are excited.
Eric Osborne talked to MCV recently - you can read a small excerpt in this promo piece, or you can grab a digital copy (for £1.99) from their website. And you can also read an article written by the brother of a Bungie fan - one that uses Destiny as an example to help to explain why sites like this one exist. Great stuff!
The Tied the Leader clan is a fantastic example of like-minded gamers getting together to enhance the community gaming experience. TTL Demag0gue (who staffs our own Destiny site, as well as being a Gunslinger) asked a number of his clanmates what they're looking forward to when Bungie lifts (a part of) the veil next week at E3 - swing by and read the answers!
Xenos has come up with a fun forum game to play while watching Bungie's E3 reveal next Monday - Destiny BINGO! He needs to get an idea of how many people are interested in playing, so be sure to leave a message in this thread if you want your own Bingo card. I hear there might be a prize for the winner...
As E3 draws nearer, we're beginning to talk about what we hope to offer. (A significant percentage of the DBO staff will be in LA next week.) What do you want to see from us - and what format should we use to bring it to you? Sound off on our forum!
DeeJ has posted the latest Breaking In article over at Bungie.net; this time his victim is Eric Cassels, an Environment Artist dedicated to building the worlds of Destiny. Give it a read, and find out how Eric went from doing custom fiberglass work on cars to creating models and textures for Bungie's next game!
IGN's Destin Legarie and Ryan McCaffrey sit down to dissect the Destiny live-action trailer.
The Destiny CG trailer (hinted at a couple of days ago) drops today... get psyched! (VG247 has a bit of additional info; they were one of the sites that received a promo package from Activision about this. The bookmark, teased on the left, is referencing June 10, not October 6. A full-sized pic is available at VG247.)
Destiny News is the center of this week's Community Focus at Bungie.net - go check out what Tim (aka Sam Hawks) has to say about why he started up a Destiny news site, and what he hopes to see in the near future! (And definitely check out the site, if you haven't. Lots of good stuff there.)
With the recent unveiling of the new Xbox One console from Microsoft, Bungie confirmed that Destiny will indeed be launching on four platforms: Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, and PS3. Not surprising, but still great to hear confirmed!
This week's Breaking In spotlight shines on Dave Matthews - no, not the South African musician, the 3D artist who works at Bungie. (He DOES make music, though. Just not on company time.) Swing by and see where this long-time industry veteran (he's been working on video games for 21 years) came from, where he's going, and why he thinks Destiny will be something that plays a huge role in your life!
Over at Buzzfeed, Community Contributor HefferBrew put up a great piece about Destiny on their "Things We're Stoked For" feature. It's a great read and a passionate look at what one author hopes will be a new evolution in online gaming experiences. Definitely go and check it out!
Well, not really, but Axelrod vK mapped out what he thinks the last remaining city on Earth will look like. By using a map of Puerto Princesa and in-game/concept reference shots from Destiny he was able to map out key points of interest such as the Traveler and the Tower in relation to the surrounding geography. Neat!
Greenskull is back with video recapping and verbalizing much of the new Destiny content that Bungie recently added to their website. Go and give it a look and listen, and see what the RUL crew thinks!
The great Guardians at Bungie saw fit to pull back the veil just a touch regarding their new universe, as they have begun beefing up the Destiny section of Bungie.net (they are not Bungie.org). Go and see for yourself new information on story, landscapes, and even some new enemy variants. Can it please be out already?! Go look!
It's time for Week 6 of the DBO Challenge! Check this thread for details, then show us your favorite television show through some (intentionally) low-fidelity art! While you're at it, don't forget to read back through Week 5's weapon ideas and all of the crazy stories they inspired.
(If you're in the mood for something off-topic and of a higher-quality than MS Paint usually provides, be sure to check out this gorgeous 10-page preview of "Mayflower", an original comic from our resident artist Leviathan.)
Destiny Forum is giving away a bunch of Destiny schwag (shirts, mug, poster) - and you can get in on the action by joining their community and telling 'em why you want it! The giveaway is open until May 15, so get over there! (While you're there, maybe vote in their 'What platform would you buy Destiny for?' poll - I find the results pretty interesting, myself!)
