Can someone tell me if this is a glitch? (Destiny)

Last night, on the run of Oryx we finally completed, there was an added bit of difficulty I don't remember noticing before. During the Oryx Missile phase, boomer-like taken Knights spawned on the platforms. Isn't this a hard mode mechanic? We were definitely playing on normal.
