When you compare that with how other organised groups (Guilds in WoW, Corporations in EVE for example) have in-game mechanisms for recruitment it does seem a little lacking.

Those games have in-game text chat you can write in with keyboards, no? Much easier to police and tune than voice chat. Less invasive.

On the other hand, The Internet, via PCs and smart phones/tablets, is pretty good for getting people together around a single subject.

E.g. DBO.
