Did we miss the big picture? (Destiny)

I just don't understand the mentality that everything we already have should suddenly be made better. What's the point of an expansion if everything we already have just gets boosted up to max level?

Now you see the problem with incremental DLC, rather than rolling all the content out at once with a set level cap, and everything integrated as such.

The optimal solution would have been for Bungie to keep the cap, but get creative with the new mission designs, such that you could do them with your old guns, but the new guns would be better suited.
