Light Levels are gone in TTK? (Destiny)

So, a couple things:

First I noticed the 'level progress bar' was back again at the bottom of the screen in some of the videos. This made me think that they were increasing the base level in TTK, but sounds like maybe not & they're just getting rid of light levels. I wouldn't count on this though because it sounds like a lot of stuff is still in flux (Polygon said guns were doing 34 damage with unfinished perks).

Second, how are they going to transition? If they just remove all light levels then a lot of players will be pissed about having to level back up to 34 from 20. If they just set your current level to your light level what about people who have higher level gear that isn't equipped? I don't see a good way to transition... Maybe spend a mote of light to gain a level? What's the exchange rate for a MoL, 2 Ascendant Shards or 2 Strange Coin? I'll be at max level right away.
