How about this. Beating the round before Skolas unlocks the purple triangle mission, defeating Skolas closes it (maybe?), and your fireteam must have the purple triangle mission themselves in order to start that mission (much like VoG hard requires VoG Normal). Essentially a checkpoint that can't be passed around.
