My recommendation (Destiny)

Is getting rid of everything I've grown to love and excel with the only way to improve?

Here is what I recommend: Embrace it during these early days of year 2.

When I realized how much new gear the game was throwing at me, I basically turned in all my year 1 gear to the Vault. I kept a couple key pieces--my go-to scout rifle and Gjallarhorn, which I used as needed, but I was free to pick up and experiment with the new gear.

You don't have to dismantle anything, so there's nothing lost if you put your favorite guns on the shelf for while.
