Yeah, certain folks might whine and cry about having to wait or grind for certain rewards,

Waiting is fine. Grinding is not.

That's the thing about ROLE-PLAYING games. Sometimes you have to work to find enough resources to build/trade for what you want.

That's also one of the most common complaints about ROLE-PLAYING games... they often take up your time with "busy work" rather than provide fun, interesting, challenging activities. One of the reasons I love Destiny so much is that it provides some of the character progression of an RPG without requiring boatloads of those meaningless, grindy activities. But there are a couple instances where some of us feel Bungie fell into that old RPG trap. I'm all for little activities, things to do, while I'm out on Patrol, etc. Harvesting 250 pieces of Relic Iron to complete a quest (seriously, that's how many I needed to grab), is not a reasonable or enjoyable activity for me, or most Destiny players.

This isn't a whiny complaint at all. This is the game gating something fun (exotic sword) behind something tedious (farming an excessive amount of planetary materials).

It can't all be shooty-jumpy-high five to rewards all the time.

Why not? Why can't it be? I'd say that The Taken King is 99% exactly that, and its better for it.
