Apple doesn't use base 10 math when referring to RAM, it uses base 2. Apple doesn't use base 10 when referring to CD/DVDs either (at least I don't think it does). Yet for some physical storage it swapped to base 10 math to solve the problem created by HDD/SSD manufacterers using base 10.
