Assuming we’re talking about the Ace of Spades quest.

Yeah, that's certainly what I was referring to. I'm glad I found out ahead of time, and for me personally this is a much better scenario - I don't really WANT to have to be the one invading, anyway.

The way I remember it being worded on the quest REALLY seemed like it was the other way around. I was dead certain that it meant kills AS the invader, so much so that I hadn't even thought to check until you said something.

Yeah, this is why they clarified it.
