IGN Looks at Crucible in Destiny 2

IGN dropped it's article for today, and it's a doozy! Four new videos showing off Control, a new map called Endless Vale, Sentinel Titan, and Voidwalker Warlock. You can go to their site to check them out there, or I've embedded the videos below.

Bungie's Vision for Destiny 2

Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy sat down with IGN to talk about what drove them when building a sequel for Destiny - it's an interesting pair of discussions, and should help people who weren't sure whether Destiny 2 was going to be more of the same, or a course change. Thanks to kidtsunami for pointing it out!

Destiny 2 - Playstation Exclusives Trailer

Today, Bungie not only gave us a better look at Ghaul, but for those on the Playstation side wondering what "greatness awaits" when the game launches on September 6th, a trailer featuring the first wave of exclusive content also dropped. Check it out!

Korny | Jun 12, 2017 10:56 pm | link

You watched the trailer...

...but how much of it did you SEE? Ragashingo has started a thread on our forum in which he points out quite a number of interesting tidbits (in addition to the OP, check out this post, and this one, and this one) - he's speculating, but he's probably right about most of them, and they really make me impressed with the level of Bungie's storytelling this time around.

Making A Memory

Mankitten stopped in last week (everyone seems to stop in when I'm gone!) with a cool piece of art - it's all of his Destiny characters, showing off together. If you don't like orange and black color schemes, you're gonna hate this. Otherwise, it rocks.

Journey to the Throne Room

A few days ago, bluerunner pointed out a pretty amazing exploration video - reddit's djxyz0 announced that he'd successfully reached Atheon's throne room from Patrol. It's a long video (which probably explains its absence from this week's update over at Bungie.net)... but if you like exploration, it's inspiring. Give it a watch, and see what 2 years of dedication can bring you!

Vicarious Visions is coming to Destiny

This morning, Vicarious Visions (a studio that has worked on Guitar Hero, Skylanders, and Transformers games) announced on Facebook that it was partnering with Bungie to expand the Destiny universe. What that means, exactly, has not been laid out yet... but it's intriguing to think about! Thanks, Korny.

Wondering what new content is coming to a PS4 near you with the launch of Rise of Iron? Sony has released a trailer for the Playstation exclusives included in the upcoming expansion (as well as the Collection bundle). The Mercury aesthetics never get old, and Icarus sure looks... Sublime. Only three days left, Guardians!

OWL Sector ARG

Bungie appears to have launched an ARG this afternoon to get the community buzzing in preparation for Rise of Iron.

There is too much information to post all of it here, but if you want to jump down the rabbit hole with the rest of us, you'll probably want to start with owlsector.bungie.net (the official website), one of the two threads that have popped up [so far] right here on DBO, or if you're really desperate you could head over to the Destiny Subreddit Megathread.

Have fun contracting infections!!

3A Shows Off Warlock and Hunter Figures

Remember those awesome Titan figures by 3A? Well they are officially showing off the Warlock  and Hunter figures, which go on sale this week and the 21st respectively! Like before there will be three different versions depending on where you purchase it from (my favorite is the Bungie Store Edition shown below). Go check out their posts about them to see more pictures and to drop $200 for one!

Trials Is Back In Black (Shield)

Trials and Iron Banner

After a short, bug-induced absence, Trials of Osiris returns to Destiny!  Bungie will be monitoring the matchmaking performance, and assuming that all goes well, Iron Banner may also make a return on Tuesday (June 28th, 10AM PST), so keep your fingers crossed!

For a full rundown of the Trials and Iron Banner info, check out the article over on Bnet.

Geoff Keighley Interviews Chris Barrett

Despite Rise of Iron not being on the show floor at E3 this year, some Bungie folks still made the pilgrimage to Los Angeles for the week and are doing interviews. Geoff Keighley sat down with Chris Barrett and chatted a bit about the expansion:

Rise of Hype

The Rise of Iron has officially been announced, and there is a lot to get excited about! New Raid, new Strike, new zone, and cyborg Fallen enemies! Watch the trailer below, or visit the official site for more details. Oh did I mention Gjallahorn is coming back?

I refuse to use Levi's headline.

I've been a KontrolFreek fan for over half a decade (I wrote a mini-review of their product back in 2010), so I was thrilled when Levi noticed that the Bungie Store now has Destiny-themed versions for sale. I've just ordered some (my current pair is getting a little ratty) - if you're looking for a way to increase your control when playing Destiny (or, really, any console-based shooter), these are fantastic! Check 'em out.

Bungie Ride Along - Crucible

Crucible map

Ever wanted to know what goes into making one of Destiny's Crucible maps? World Artists Mick Buckmiller, Coolie Calihan, and Adam Williams join DeeJ for this week's Bungie Ride Along to help answer some of those questions!

Edit: This is available as a Twitch archive, now. (Thanks, CyberKN.)

Riding to a Fall

Yesterday, Bungie hosted another Ride-Along - this time around, DeeJ, Designer Brendan Thorne and Writer Jill Scharr comment on a King's Fall Raid run, as played by 6 other devs. (A sad goodbye to nearly the entire team; their job was to complete the raid without dying, on penalty of job loss for failure... and with the exception of Chase Christian (and Brandon Bjarnason, technically, since his death occurred after Oryx's death), all of them died at least once, with Cozmo_BNG adding a mind-boggling 4 casualties to the total.) If you're not a big Raider, this is a really useful demonstration of techniques and routes... and even if you DO raid a lot, you'll likely see things that make you reconsider your preferred practices, and you'll learn things you didn't know about the lore behind the encounters. It will be available on YouTube eventually, but you can watch the archived stream on Twitch right now. Check this out - a fun watch!

Update: Looks like it's already up!

An Armory to Drool Over

reddit/imgur user tsabotsaboc posted a gallery of images of Destiny weapons he's either created or helped to create. They're glorious! The reddit thread is pretty interesting reading, in itself; there's even a YouTube channel containing things like this time-lapse video showing the making of his Thorn hand cannon and a video demonstrating the effects on his Destiny swords. Explore! And maybe get inspired! Thanks, CheapLEY.

Bungie Foundation Highlighted in Make-A-Wish Newsletter

Bungie Foundation

The good folks over at Make-A-Wish have decided to highlight the Bungie Foundation as a loyal supporter in their 30th Anniversary Newsletter. You can also get Bungie's account of the experience over at the Bungie Foundation's website. It's a great reminder of how our favorite developer gives back to the community with the help of their own loyal fans (you!).

Rarities out of Love and Support

Michael Forgey worked for Bungie as a producer until he passed away due to cancer. Bungie (and other studios) are auctioning off some signed, rare memorabilia on eBay to help support his family. So if you have some money, want some cool things, and want to give to a good cause, you can see what's up for grabs here.

Destiny Companion Update

Good news for iPad owners; Bungie has updated the Destiny Companion App with a ton of new features, and lots of pretty bells and whistles. Swing by B.net for a full accounting, or just visit the iTunes store for a free download! (Works with the iPhone and the iPod Touch, as well, but it shines brightest on the iPad.)
