Eurogamer sat down with Jonty Barnes and Jesse van Dijk at Gamescom to mostly discuss concerns the community has about the game, although the article is sprinkled with some new information. Thanks DaDerga!
While talking to TotalXbox.com Jonty Barnes cleared up a question a lot of Bungie fans have had about the leaked contract with Activision, namely: is Bungie working on a new Marathon game.
“I think it’s very hard to imagine anything detracting from our focus on Destiny right now, I think we've got really ambitious plans going forward."
Playstation Access sat down with DeeJ at Gamescom to  discuss the beta as well as the future of the game. Some interesting tidbits in there, including that Destiny will launch with 10 competitive multiplayer maps!
Before he was DBO-fied, Xenos let us know that Joystiq posted a little interchange with Bungie's Jonty Barnes, Director of Production, mostly concerning the first Destiny expansion, The Dark Below. There's also a few other details about the Beta, and how Bungie will keep upgrading and growing Destiny consistently as opposed to just releasing it, a few DLC, and moving onto the next project.
We're going to change the game after launch in a frequency that we think makes sense, and that isn't going to be dependent on The Dark Below."
Jonty Barnes sat down with The Sixth Axis at Gamescom to discuss how well the Destiny beta went, and how that will affect the game in the long run. A lot of good information on topics that haven't been thoroughly covered elsewhere!
The man who's stealing our jobs, Xenos, dropped us a note about TotalXbox.com (a.k.a Official Xbox Magazine)'s talk with Bungie at Gamescom regarding Destiny expansions. Bungie seems to have high ambitions to keep this world living and breathing, from free upgrades to paid-for heaps of content. Go read!
The speedy Cody Miller pointed out an opinion piece at GameInformer regarding Destiny - specifically what the author perceives to be a confusing narrative from the start. It's not a condemning piece - the critique is coming from someone who's actually enjoying the rest of the game and it's short and sweet so give it a gander!
PackLeader89 informed the board that GameStop has begun pre-selling an expansion pass for Destiny which covers The Dark Below (Hive-themed) and House of Wolves (Fallen-focused). I hope they post-sell it, too.
Lost Viking Props (well-known for their Halo weaponry) has posted pics of a Destiny Auto-Rifle in progress - looks fantastic! (Thanks for the heads-up, Lorraine!)
SteelGaribaldi dropped by our forums showing off a spreadsheet he created to help him manage his inventory and equip the best weapons and gear for the right character (apparently everyone doesn't just choose the coolest-sounding name like me). You can snag a copy from him and customize it for your own Guardians. His post will walk you through all the details. Neat!
Ragashingo's been hard at work crafting new stories for us to read. He submitted four new installments last week that introduce us to new characters and begin to build a latticework of connections to others we've already met.
Go read!A couple of days ago, Missoula radio station KMMS interviewed Paul McCartney (who was in town for a concert) - it's a 12-minute interview, and four of those minutes are devoted to Paul's involvement with Destiny! Amazing. It's a great interview in its entirety, but if you're short on time, the Destiny portion begins at about 6:25. One of the most fascinating tidbits buried in his discussion was the fact that McCartney was asked (and agreed) to contribute an entire song!
Eventually they said, "we'd like a song." So that was exciting, you know, I said, "Okay, show me the ballpark, what's the song going to follow, what's going to happen?" So that was great, and we did that.
(Thanks to Xenos, who noticed this interview at ArcadeSushi.) Hot on the heels of that information, Attack of the Fanboy purports to have a bunch of additional info about this song:
They don't explain where they got this info... but we'll keep our eyes open and report any new details.
Update: Looks like AotF found this in the New York Times. Huh.
Earlier this week, Eric Hirshberg (Activision CEO) held an earnings call for investors, and discussed the Destiny Beta. He was quite positive about the overall success of the Beta, and stated that it was unlikely we'd see major changes to the game, since the fundamentals were so strong. Nice results from the largest beta ever for a new IP! DualShockers gets the credit for finding this.
Diehard GameFAN has an article entitled '10 Thoughts on The Destiny Beta' - they're solid thoughts. For folks following every snippet of content online, you probably won't find much new here - but for anyone who needs a quick refresher (or wants to read a summary of what we know so far from someone who's spent a little time putting ideas together), this is worth a read. Check it out!
A number of people put together Destiny montages to show off their time in the Beta - we've got a couple for you. l_H4RDC0R3_l announced his joint venture with friends OMGWTF22 and Koonrat15 - and our own TTL Demag0gue told us about his experience, entitled 'Dematage'. Watch both!
DestinyOverwatch put together a nice montage that skips the sniper shots and multikills, focusing instead on the gorgeous landscapes found in the Beta. Check out The Beauty of Destiny for some relaxing sightseeing. (Thanks, DaDerga.)
A couple of great compilations of Destiny footage came out recently - Gen Kim released 'Blood Runs Out', while DBMgamer came up with 'The New Era'. Watch 'em both.
There's an interesting post over at NeoGAF - it's written by a long-time gamer who generally enjoys single-player games (or playing with coop buddies) over multiplayer stuff. He doesn't play online games much at all. If this sounds like you... go give it a read. (You might be surprised by his experience with Destiny.) Thanks, Kermit (or should I say Mig).
IGN has posted some footage from the Xbox One, so that you can compare it to PS4 footage before the Xbox is allowed into the Beta tomorrow. Go take a look! Thanks, petetheduck.
If you didn't get a chance to experience the Iron Banner event which took place this afternoon at 2pm PDT, never fear - there are other options! It'll be running tomorrow (Sunday), at 2pm and
7pm, according to this Tweet - so gear up! (Thanks, petetheduck.)
IRON BANNER will resume tonight at 7PM, as well as tomorrow 7/20 at 2PM and 7PM (PDT). Gear up. Tell your friends. pic.twitter.com/IV4EQT4MBO

Now that both the PS3 and PS4 versions of the Beta are live, it's possible to make comparisons; to see how the two generations stack up. Our own Korny whipped up a few GIFs (don't mind the color issues; you're looking at image detail) - there are two in this post, another two in this one, and three over here (the detail differences on the city from a distance are pretty intriguing). And then UnrealCh13f stopped by with a Game Riot video, which shows off the differences in video form. (The beginning, which is all cutscene, is fantastic - it really gives you a sense of what's changed. The second half, which is gameplay, is much harder to parse, since the two runs aren't even remotely similar.) Go check this stuff out! (And keep an eye on Korny's thread - there may very well be more content added.)
The Inquirer has posted a hands-on preview of the Beta (pretty impressive, given that they managed to get it online before the Beta went live for most of us). Go give it a read!
