Looking back on a big week

The most recent Bungie Weekly Update went live this afternoon - and it's a great summary of a pretty intense week. Videos and screenshots (if you've missed them elsewhere) fill the first half, along with information about how you can support a great cause and vote for Bungie sartorial splendor. The second half is a meaty Mail Sack with some tasty answers to burning questions. Go check it out! (There is, as always, a local copy in our BWU Archive, if you'd rather just stay here.) Notification came from GrimBrother IV - nice work, sir!

MLG Pro Joins Destiny Team

With somewhere between 5 and 600 people now in the studio, it's almost like working at Bungie is nothing special - I mean, everyone's doing it, right? Every once in a while, though, we hear about a hire that causes speculation through implication - and Gamespot noticed one that does just that. Former MLG Pro Bonnie 'Xena' Burton tweeted yesterday that she's joining the Bellevue crew - she brings some interesting skills to the table! If we learn more about what she'll be doing, we'll let you know.

Bungie's Date with Destiny

eurogamer.pngEurogamer has released another Destiny article - but this one looks more at the studio behind the game than at the game itself. It's a pretty interesting read, covering ground not really covered before. Bungie has been on its own before (in the 90s), and it's been wholly owned by a much bigger fish (when it was a Microsoft subsidiary), and it's now somewhere in the middle; it's beholden to Activision (simply by dint of the huge amount of cash poured into the studio from Activision coffers), but it's still its own company, capable of making decisions it couldn't make while part of Microsoft. Eurogamer tried to get a handle on how this is working - go give it a read! Credit, almost inevitably these days, goes to Xenos for the find.

The Know's Destiny Week: Building a 10-Year Universe

Ashley Jenkins and The Know has their final installment of Destiny Week online - it's a look at the world Bungie's building that they're hoping you'll be living in for the next 10 years. An intriguing quote from Jesse Van Dijk, explaining why a particular image from early concept art didn't make it into the final game:

"What we see there is not really indicative of something that says 'Hey, this is humanity that went through 700 years of sped up evolution.' ...and we need it to."

This is a nice little insight into what the Traveler has done to mankind in its time above our planet! Go watch the rest. Thanks, Xenos.
