I also have to wonder if you are able to enjoy a few hours here and there because you already have completed the raid or collected the gear you care about. If you were still chasing after a certain exotic would you only put in 5 hours a week, or would you be playing much more?

That is the great thing about Taken King. The raid gear is generally weak except for the machine gun. You can play through the quests and go do the raid all without any grind at all. Completing the raid requires no grind, unlike at launch. As for exotics, I learned my lesson with Hawkmoon. Bungie keeps changing them so what you seek might not be what you get. Better to just not care and make due with what you have, even if it means forgoing an interesting piece of gear that's fun to use.

That is of course its own problem, but I don't think Bungie cares to eliminate the horrible design influence of MMOs at this point. Just make the best of the situation until a game comes along that gives you as much fun as Destiny does without jerking you around.
