Some thoughts on Destiny 2 PC. (Destiny)

• Game looks great. My PC benchmarks around the 70% mark for gaming but is pretty much maxed all the things and smooth. The visuals in some regards feel weirdly smooth.

Yeah, I'm running a capture program in the background of the game, and I only have 8gigs of dedotaded wam, so I've lowered most of the settings down a notch just to be on the safe side (I'll never be one of those "overclocking" folks), and the game still looks great and runs super smooth. I feel like it should be much more demanding than it is.

• However I cannot say the same for gameplay. I initially wanted to blame it on MKB for it all feeling easier, but I think, in pvE at least, our damage values have been tweaked all around. Boss is squishier, but there are more Yellow Bars. But they do reliably drop heavy. Additionally, gear tweaks (both reserve and in-magazine ammo values) have occurred on some weapons. I have only noticed increases.

The ability to snap between enemies and land crits consistently can't be ignored. The game really is much easier. Plus, cooldowns are faster throughout, so I found myself using stuff just for the sake of using it more than I did during the console Beta. I do like the fact that the Shielded Yellows are a guaranteed Heavy drop. I found myself using Heavy more often on them, since I knew I would get it back. A neat touch that keeps you cycling through your tools.

• While the Boss being squishy is likely a numerical change, the twitchier PC movement definitely is jarring for the game. One reason I often play shooters on console is feel, and Destiny and Des2ny on console have a certain flow and nuance that is not on the PC because of digital inputs and mouselook. It is in many regards easier to be good at shooting and you can use less situational awareness as snap aiming a 180 is not hard. This is not inherently bad just not my personal taste for an immersive experience. (Aside: I built my PC to play Lawbreakers for a semi-irrational reason, but love the twitchiness in that as it's an Arena shooter at its heart, I just don't know if that really fits Destiny.)

+100
I don't like PC gaming for a number of reasons, and feel is a huge one. I'm a "cinematic" guy first and foremost. I want my gameplay to flow smoothly, and mouse controls are too jerky and jarring for me (presenting game moments cinematically was something that I focused on some years back, since all of the clips that I'd find were jerky and full of unnecessary ADD movements.).

I was thinking of just syncing my DS4 and playing that way, but that's kind of suicide in the Crucible (and it already feels like the TTK is a bit too high on PC as it is, considering that you rarely miss). I dunno. I like a sense of cinematic immersion, which is something that the twitch-obsessed PC crowd doesn't ever seem to get.

• All that said. It is still a lot of fun and a nice change of pace.

If there's one thing that bugs me about PC gaming, it's the lack of co-op focused games that aren't MMOs or ARMA-based survival shooters. It'll be neat to see how Destiny 2 fares.
