They can be Guardians? (Destiny)

Given the masks and hoods and gloves they wear - how do we tell a Human Hunter from an Awoken Hunter or Exo or... ?

If Exos had mechanical hands and metal skulls then they wouldn't need gloves or masks.

Have we seen non-Human Guardians in game play vids?

I think from looking at the hands and maybe even the face in the E3 demo that the Hunter is an Exo. I could of course be mistaken.
