Raid Encounter #1 Discussion *Raid Spoilers* (Destiny)

I enjoyed the first encounter quite a bit. It’s conceptually similar to Mines and Argos from Eater of Worlds. I like being able to have sort of assigned roles, but also having a rotation or other sort of variable that requires some on the fly adjustment. I haven’t looked, but I still think the Ogres need to come into play for the Challenge or for Prestige or something. I don’t think they’re really necessary as a punishment mechanic.

The second encounter though . . . I’ll have to play it much more, but it might have replaced Mines/Argos as my favorite encounter. It’s a great test of coordination, timeliness, and combat efficiency. The slim window just makes this encounter work in a really awesome way for me. Getting those tethers nailed down, generating orbs for each other, huddling into Kermit’s Well of Radiance—it was just really great feeling to nail that. And seeing that steady improvement by getting to the oracle room more quickly and being able take the time to setup and kill adds before having to worry about the grid was just great. I loved the first time you get to the next level and have to do the same mechanics but figure out a whole new set of spawns and enemies. We’re still missing something with the orb and Interrupts, though, and I think the fact that we almost entirely ignored a mechanic (and don’t understand it) and still got through is sort of a weakness.
