That didn't seem to hold true for our group? Or does it only force the interrupt if you use it at the correct moment?

I don't think we ever isolated a consistent response. There were times when we moved on to the next phase through pure damage without using the orb super, but there were also times when we wiped when it seemed like we had done enough damage but didn't use the orb super. Our consistent strategy that got us the clear was to use the super as soon as she was damagable, and then switch to pure DPS.
