... There's also always a time in the match where everyone just stops gathering motes for some reason… like we need 20 to get to our Primeval. Yeah they have theirs up, but why is nobody trying anymore? This happened a lot and I can't explain it.

This might be due to the perception in the community that the "catch-up" mechanics in Gambit favor the team that summons their Primeval second. (See this thread, for example: https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/9jguj6/remove_the_catchup_system_in_gambit/)

There is another benefit to summoning second: you can send over taken ogres for them to deal with while they are trying to kill their Primeval. If you summon first, no more blockers.
